Alvar
Year: 2020
Type of project: University
Typeology: Parametric Column
Location: San Francisco
As an exploration of columns for the class Synthetic Tectonics, Alvar is a parametrically designed column paying tribute to the Finnish architects vision for sweeping wood and accented subdivided columns as seen in Villa Mairea.
The grasshopper script allows the user to change the parameter inputs of height, diameter, panel division, curve subdivision and gap space between panels. The curvature of the panels are designed to provide structural integrity by bending 90 degrees over the axis point for the load bearing feet.
